Rethos.com
When I first came across the Rethos website it was still in construction. So I just subscribed to their alpha invite and kept waiting. Once the site went up and running, it did not left me dissapointed at all. Great uncesored news concerning enviromental and human rights issues and a vibrant community on sites forums. Just click the link above and see for yourself.
Wikileaks.org
When there is injustice happening, there is always somebody to blame. This site is a hammer on evil and injustice. Corruption cases, human rights violations and many more are addressed here in great numbers. As Times Magazine pointed out ” … could become as important a journalistic tool as the Freedom of Information Act.” Even-thou it should be used with care and always bear in mind that it is a Wiki after all. Use it as a clue, but not as an evidence.
Greenmaven.com
Everything green in one place! Search the green web with this eco-friendly search engine.
Green.wikia.com
Another Wiki. This time concerning environmental issues rather than human rights. Great source of information on anything “green” you can imagine. From environmentally friendly technologies to a list ecological NGO’s and advice on how to live a sustainable living. Educate yourself with gree.wikia.com
Hrw.org
Website of one of the worlds leading human rights protection watchdogs.
“What one man can imagine, other can achieve!” The number one reason why We (humans) haven’t achieved a better world yet, is that we do not dare to imagine it in the first place! Afraid of being called naive or silly. On this site you will find some people that “Do Dare”. By far the best imaginarium of better worlds on-line… and not silly at all.
If you are fed up with commercial tv washing your brains out with silly stories and britney spears, this is a true alternative.
Knowledge free for everybody. If this is not an truly utopian idea, than what is? We live in the world where this is a reality. Almost! Wikipedia is a template of common good and common achievement.
Techno-utopianism for masses. One example of how a “No-bullshit” culture should look like.
No, not joking. The permanent endeavour of the Wordpress community should not be forgotten. Now people can not only listen, but they are being heard as well. Democracy at last! (?)
It’s a good list. But please consider Care2.com, too.
Care2 is a great community of “do gooders” that has evolved continuously since its founding 11 years ago. The focus is on taking specific, concrete actions to make a better world. There are petitions, pledges, Click-to-donate causes, eight “cause channels” (blogs with action opportunities), e-cards, a Digg-style news network, daily e-alerts on 30 different causes, healthy and green living tips, job and volunteer opportunities, etc., etc.
(Full disclosure: I work for Care2, leading the team that partners with about 400 leading nonprofits to bring actions and content to Care2’s millions of members.)
Happy New Year.
